It is our job as HR Professionals to conduct uncomfortable conversations and in many instances train managers on how to have an uncomfortable conversation with a staff member. What is an uncomfortable conversation? Another term we can use is “verbal counseling.” It is imperative that constructive dialogue occurs between HR and team members, to assist them in being successful in their position. When staff is not fulfilling their job description, whether it’s tardiness, lack of productivity, less than appropriate skills, etc., it is up to HR to have this discussion. This is not always an easy task. How do we do that? First, we have to feel comfortable in having the dialogue. Many of us have never been trained in this arena. Verbal counseling can be very challenging and can take us off course. We’ve all been there. This session, will help you stay on course, be prepared for the conversation, and give you a different perspective of these situations. Managers also need to be able to have a compassionate, yet productive dialogue with their staff. Successful employee relations is a quality that managers rarely possess.
