Dealing with pregnant employees troubles California employers. Sometimes it seems that everyone is getting pregnant at the same time. This program will dissect how pregnancy is treated under the Americans With Disability Act, California Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL) law and the relatively new California pregnancy regulations, which present some important changes. The laws and regulations are pretty clear cut but the application is much more difficult. What is a reasonable accommodation? What about the interactive process? Managers get nervous about talking to a pregnant employee, perhaps afraid that they may ask or say something wrong. What about the tardiness and attendance which frequently accompany an employee being pregnant? What about the co-workers who think that “it is not fair”? Sometimes they don’t even know about the pregnancy. Then there is the question of how long the employee can be off work because of her pregnancy and childbirth? The EEOC has its view, a California Court of Appeal has now weighed in, and what about baby bonding? This program will thoroughly discuss all overlapping rules and provide practical guidance on how to deal with pregnancy, childbirth, and lactation accommodation to make Human Resource professionals feel more expertise when facing these issues.
