The war for talent has never been fiercer. As organizations fight for the best and the brightest, HR professionals are scrambling to find an edge. While healthcare and retirement plans continue to be a crucial component of total rewards, benefit packages have evolved. A benefits program is a representation of a company’s culture and should be communicated as such. Mission and values should be expressed when designing a total rewards strategy. Millennials have been instrumental in identifying what they find valuable and their input is responsible for much of the innovation that has taken place over the past decade. They will make up nearly half of all US workers in the next few years, so understanding their needs is mission critical; however, companies must not overlook other generations. What can companies do to address the needs of a highly diverse, multigenerational workforce? How have total rewards changed and what does the future hold?
