Description
Recently, the floodgates have opened with new reports about allegations of sexual harassment almost every day. While the media seems focused on entertainment and politics, California employers want to know this means for their own employees and workplaces. What is going to change for employers in California, where we are already not only sensitized to harassment but have strong legislation in place aimed at curtailing the impact of harassment in the workplace? Will things get better or worse for California employers? What do employers in this “Brave New World” of sexual harassment need to do to create and foster a work environment where employees feel safe and trust that they will be heard, while at the same time ensuring that the alleged accused will also be treated fairly and with due process? We will review the “new normal” of sexual harassment, new risks for employers, fabrication of claims, and proactive steps employers must take. We will also review recent developments in training, investigations and corrective action. Finally, we will explain how to change your company culture where needed, and get your employees to care. This is a timely hot topic that should not be missed.
Key Objectives:
2. Understand how recent employment legislation in California is going to impact how employers deal with the likely increase in sexual harassment claims, including laws on background checks, anti-bullying, and new EEOC/DFEH requirements.
3. Discuss the impact company culture has on maintaining a harassment-free environment, and review real-life examples of day-to-day changes that employers can make in the workplace to create and foster a safe and trusting work environment.
