Description
President Trump has proposed a radical hard-line immigration stance across the board and has already started being tougher on employers who do not strictly follow immigration laws. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires that employers verify the identity and legal authorization to work in the United States of their newly hired employers through the use of Form I-9. We will discuss the challenges that employers face in the context of the ever-changing landscape of Immigration Law and its intersections with Employment Law (including, among other topics, a related discussion of California Assembly Bill 450 [“Immigrant Worker Protection Act”] and DACA ["Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals"] and other Immigration Issues Affecting Employers). Topics Include: - Increase in fines for non-compliance - Trump's hard-line immigration stance - Current employer verification procedures - Employers tips on compliance when verifying employment eligibility - AB 450 and impact on compliance with federal immigration law
Key Objectives:
2. Be prepared for a site visit/audit
3. Limit civil liability on previously completed Forms I-9
