As organizations re-think human resources in the new workplace, #RealHR brought together a panel of distinguished HR professionals and DEI&B experts who will discuss the structural, systemic, policy and behavioral changes that are critical to ensure that DEI&B is woven into the organization’s culture management process.
The learning objectives include:
- Provide a working definition of DEI&B and the culture management process.
- Discuss organizational strategies and frameworks to help best integrate DEI&B into the fabric of an organization.
- Reflect on how HR professionals can work with various leadership levels to begin the process of integrating DEI&B and organizational culture to increase organizational effectiveness.
- Explore the steps that HR practitioners can take to embrace DEI&B at their organization.
Don’t forget your business cards as the first portion of the in-person event will include tacos, margaritas and community building. There will be non-alcoholic and vegetarian options as well. Dr. Deena Brown, Inclusion and Belonging Keynote Speaker| TEDxSpeaker| Founder, The Leadhershift Movement| Curator, Melanin TôKs, and Director, Global Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity| GIDE Business Partner, Medtronic Dr. Deena C. Brown has worked in Organizational Development, Change & Transformation, and Leadership Effectiveness for over 20 years. Dr. Brown’s research on change and transformation led to the development of The Shift Theorem. The SHIFT Theorem tried, tested, and proven along with the works of a mathematician, neuroscientist, and astrologist has created the most effective System of knowing the WHAT, WHERE, and WHY to SHIFT - MORE IMPORTANTLY WHEN. Dr. Brown’s research helps enterprises harness human capital’s power to embrace diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as an integral aspect of innovation and advancement. Dr. Sharonne Herbert, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer & Board Certified Psychologist, CHOC Children’s Dr. Sharonne (pronounced Sha-rawn) Herbert is a belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion (BDEI) strategist, community builder, and board-certified psychologist. At Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in her role as a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer, she has contributed to the organization by developing and implementing a BDEI strategic plan and unconscious bias models and trainings, deploying inclusive processes, and consulting in the areas of leadership and belonging. Passionate about creating high-performing teams, Dr. Herbert values partnership, empathy, compassion, and authenticity as critical elements to integrating BDEI into the overall culture. The goal of her work is to leverage these foundational principles to help everyone appreciate differences and engage with one another in a positive, mindful way to create an environment where everyone thrives. | |
Cecil Chik she/her/hers & they/them/theirs In March 2022, Cecil became the Director of Student Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Cal Poly Pomona. In this position, she will create and support student equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives as well as student organizations such as the African American Student Center, Asian & Pacific Islander Student Center, Cesar E. Chavez Center for Higher Education, Pride Center, and more. Prior to joining Cal Poly Pomona, Cecil served as the Director of Engagement and Learning in the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Programs at Cal State Fullerton. Providing vision and oversight for learning opportunities and engagement programs on the topic of diversity, inclusion, and equity, Cecil designed programs to build the internal capacity of faculty and staff to embed equity-minded practices in the everyday operations inside and outside the classroom. Cecil started her professional journey as a high school math teacher in Florida after receiving her Bachelor’s in Mathematics Education. During her time as a high school teacher, she taught at multiple Title I schools and witnessed first-hand the disparities in equitable learning that exist for students of color in our education system. In her quest to be a better support for students, Cecil returned to get her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. During her time as a counselor-in-training, Cecil supported the LGBTQ+ Resource Center at her alma mater, University of Central Florida. Cecil is completing her doctorate at Cal State University, Fullerton in Education Leadership with a research focus on diversity action planning focused on systemic and institutional change. | |
